Sentence Of Detention YN.Z. Press Association) OAMARU, July 24. An 18-year-old builder’s labourer, James Anthony O’Kane, who had pleaded guilty in the Oamaru Magistrate’s Court to a charge of assaulting a Waitaki Boys’ High School pupil out on a training run, was today sentenced to a period in a detention centre by Mr T. A. Ross, &M.

O’Kane pleaded guilty through Mr J. M. White to charges of assault, using insulting language, and five charges involving the purchase, possession and drinking of liquor while a minor. On the assault and insulting language charges, the Magistrate sentenced O’Kane to a period in a detention centre, to be followed by a term of probation, with the special conditions that he live and work where directed. O’Kane was fined $2O on each charge of using insulting language and possession of liquor in a publie place while a minor. “Hie fines are to be paid as directed by the probation officer.

O'Kane was convicted and discharged on three charges of purchasing liquor while a minor.
