Car Leasing Agreement

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 25.

A car lease agreement which contained a clause providing for the sale of the car at the end of the lease period, the lessee to receive anything in excess of the residual value of $640, was ruled to be a hire-purchase agreement by Mr Justice Henry in the Supreme Court at Auckland. His Honour was delivering a reserved judgment in a civil appeal brought by Jack Quartel, a foreman, of Otara, against a decision of Mr D. I. N. McLean in the Otahuhu Magistrate’s Court.
