UNIVERSITY VACANCIES THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND APPLICATIONS are invited for the undermentioned positions. PROFESSOR OF POLITICS Applications are invited for the foundation Chair of Politics. The department will be expected in time to develop the teaching of political institutions, theory and sociology, public administration and international relations, but it would be preferred that the foundation professor’s primary interests should be in fields other than international relations. SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER IN ECONOMICS The appointee will be required to assist in the teaching of undergraduate and post- j graduate students and will be | expected to undertake research in his fields of interest. Though no special qualifications in any particular area of economics is specified, ability to teach both elementary and more advanced courses in mathematical economics would be an advantage. Overseas applicants should indicate whther they seek a permanent or short-term appointment. In the latter case, a contribution of up to BASOO will be made towards return travel expenses after three years service. SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER IN SOCIOLOGY (Several Positions) Applicants should be suitably aualified in sociology and/or social anthropology. Lecturers will be expected to take part in the general programme of
the department but particular interest and experience in one or more of the following fields would be advantageous: research methodology, sociology of organisations, sociology of agriculture, social movements or social problems. LECTURER IN ENGLISH Applicants should have appropriate qualifications in English literature. LECTURERS IN HISTORY (Several Positions) Applicants for one position should be specialists in medieval history, but should also preferably be able to teach Australian history. For the second positions, applicants should be qualified to teach Australian history but should also preferably be interested in teaching 19th and 20th century British and ’European history. LECTURER IN PHILOSOPHY No particular field is specified, but applicants are invited to state their special field of interest or competence. LECTURER IN PHYSICS Applicants should have qualifications in solid state physics, chemical physics or related fields. Preference will be given to applicants with experimental or a combination of experimental and theoretical interests. LECTURER IN PHYCHOLOGY Applicants should be qualified to conduct the introductory course in general psychology and to offer courses at the higher undergraduate and graduate levels from one or more of the fields of general psychology and/or mathematical psychology. Duties will include preparation and supervision of laboratory courses for both arts and science students, the organisation of seminars, arrangement of tutorials, the supervision of post-graduate students and some routine departmental administrative duties. AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY CHAIR OF FORESTRY APPLICATIONS AKE INVITED for appointment to a second Chair which has been created in the Department of Forestry in the Faculty of Science. The appointee will be expected to take up duty as soon as possible and in any case not later than March, 1970. The appointment will be made in one of the various fields associated with a broad interpretation of the general subjects of Forest Management and Wood Science. The Department of Forestry provides courses leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science (Forestry) at both the pass and honours level and supervises candidates for the degrees of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy. The head of the department is Professor J. D. Ovington. The salary for the post is $12,000 per annum, Australian currency. The University provides reasonable travel and removal expenses and assistance with housing. Superannuation is on the F.S.S.U. pattern with supplemental? benefits.
