COOL N.Z. REACTION

Proposal On Lamb (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 24. The Government was today offered easier access for lamb into the West German market, but did not receive it enthusiastically, according to the West German Minister of Agriculture (Mr Herman Hoecherl). Details of the proposal were to be worked out, Mr Hoecherl said.

He expected a switch in procedure for lamb exports from New Zealand to West Germany which would facilitate greater entry. At present New Zealand shares a little less than 2000 tons of a global qudta of 4600 tons for sheep and lamb. Last year lamb exported to West Germany was 1780 tons, and this could be exceeded by 400 tons annually if the proposal were accepted. “I do not believe the Government’s reaction was enthusiastic," he said. But it was satisfactory.
