Morton Closes Gap
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) ILE DE BENDOR (France). The New Zealander, R. Morton, moved up one place, to fourth over all, at the end of the second day in the international O.K. class yachting championship yesterday. All boats were tested by the wind, which varied in force and direction several times during the day off this island near the south France naval base of Toulon. Morton could only take
twenty-fourth place in the morning’s third leg, a sevenmlle Olympic-style cours.e. He improved vastly on this performance in the afternoon, finishing eighth in the shorter, 5.4-mile fourth leg. Morton now has 68 points in the over-all classification, trailing the leader, H. van Pagee (Netherlands), by 24 points. The Dane, S. Kjolhede, lies second (47.7 points), with the Frenchman, D. Dahon (52) third.
