Exhaust Device Mandatory (N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) SYDNEY, July 24. All new petrol-driven vehicles in Australia will have to be fitted with special exhaust gas equipment from July 1 next year. The Australian Transport Advisory Council has endorsed the compulsory fitting of “crankcase emission control” devices. Commonwealth and State transport ministers have also agreed 'that crankcase recycling is a simple, inexpensive and effective method of reducing air pollution. The device is a pipe which directs dangerous fumes from the crankcases of motor cars back to the engine for rebuming.
