ANOTHER JACKPOT
Trotting Clubs In Waikato "The Press** Special Service AUCKLAND. The Waikato and Bay of Plenty trotting clubs decided at a meeting at Cambridge on Monday night to start! a six-race jackpot at the Cambridge clubs meeting on September 2. It will be on the same lines as the jackpot run by racing clubs in Waikato —the pool will remain Intact until it is won. The attendance of about 50 at the meeting on Monday included representatives of all the clubs which will participate—Waikato, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Rotorua, Morrinsville and Bay of Plenty. There was disappointment among some clubs that the three clubs which race at Alexandra Park were apparently not very Interested in making one big trotting jackpot in the Auckland province, accqrding to the secretary of the Cambridge ■club (Mr B. K. Heaslip). “My own club, in particular, is very keen on the idea.” he said. “We feel that one continuous jackpot would help clubs as a whole.
“There could be a more rapid build-up of the pool and people would go to more meetings rather than only those in their own area.”
The president of the Auckland Trotting Club (Mr R. Lewis! said when Mr Heaslip’s remarks were referred to him that he personally was in favour of separate jackpots—one run by clubs in Waikato and the Bay of Plenty, and the other by the three clubs which raced at Alexandra Park. .
Mr Lewis, who is also the North Island vice-president of the New Zealand Trotting Conference, said the question of jackpots would be discussed at a meeting this week of the Auckland, Thames and Franklin clubs.
The Cambridge club will use the same entry forms as the Waikato racing clubs. As well as special windows for the sale of tickets an additional eight win-and-place selling windows will be provided for the September meeting.
