UNIVERSITY RUNNERS
Cross-country Trip In Aust. (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. A New Zealand universities cross-country team of six runners will tour Australia from August 21 to August 31 this year, starting in Sydney. The secretary of the New Zealand Universities Crosscountry Council (Mr B. K. Beath) said that on August 23 the team would compete in a 10,000 metres race in Newcastle.
At Armidale, on August 28, a test match against Australian universities would be run. The first four runners in each team to finish would count for team points. On August 30, a New Zealand team of four would compete in a four-by-five miles road relay, also at Armidale. The two New Zealand runners remaining would make up a composite team.
Runners would be selected primarily on results of the New Zealand universities cross-country championships, to be held at the site of the Otago championship course al Tirohanga, on August 18. Those eligible for selection would come from Auckland, Massey, Victoria, Canterbury. Lincoln and Otago, all of which would contribute a proportionate share of the tour cost.
Race Postponed.—The third race in the world 5.5 metre yachting championships at Sandhamn, in Sweden, was postponed because of a lack of wind. The over-all leader after two races is a French yacht, Sybele
