1000 TO ONE
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter) LONDON, July 20. The successful landing on the moon won £lO,OOO for David Threlfall, aged 26, a bachelor, who placed a bet five years ago that the feat would be accomplished before 1971. Mr Threlfall, who laid £lO at odds of 1000 to one in 1964, said: “I’ve no idea why I did it It just came to me one day, and that was that.” Mr Threlfall bet on a human being setting foot on the moon or any other
■ planet star or heavenly g body of comparable distance from the earth before January 1, 1971. Receiving his cheque on a special “Man on the Moon” television programme, Mr Threlfall said: “I think I’ve had my share now—l don’t think I will put any money on people getting to Mars.” A spokesman for the bookmaker who accepted the bet said: “We stand to lose more than £41,000 if the Russians also land before 1971.”
