Akaroa Convent To Close

The Convent of Mercy at Akaroa which was established 71 years ago, is to close at the end of the year because there are not enough pupils to justify keeping it open. At present there are fewer than 20 pupils at the convent and by the end of the year there will be only about 13 These children will attend the primary school at Akaroa next year. The convent which is run by the order of the Sisters of Mercy In Rue Lavaud, will be used for Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and other parish activities next year.
