Ford Falcon G.S.

a new Falcon model, the “Grand Sport” or G.S., has been announced in Australia by Ford as an addition to the 1969 range. The car is powered by the 5-litre V 8 Ford engine, and Is intended to compete with the Valiant Pacer and the Holden Monaro. The G.S. is said to have a top speed of about 115 m.p.h. and does not replace the Falcon G.T., which in its latest form has a 5.8-litre engine producing about 292 b.h.p. and giving a top speed of about 135 m.p.h. The G.T. has

been designed with a win in the Hardie-Ferodo 500-mile saloon car race at Bathurst very much in mind, Australian sources report. It even has a 36-gallon fuel tank to reduce refuelling stops. Victory in the Bathurst race is regarded as an important publicity achievement by Australian manufacturers, and class wins are sought almost as eagerly as over-all victory. Many spectators drive hundreds of miles to watch the race, and thousands more watch on television.
