The Government is to buy two Fokker Friendship turboprop aircraft for calibration flights in the South Pacific by the Civil Aviation Division of the Ministry of Transport. The Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon) said the division’s existing Douglas DC3s could no longer meet modern requirements. The Friendships, with their equipment, would cost about $3.5m. The first was expected to be delivered in about 18 months and the second a year later. They are expected to meet requirements for the next 12 to 15 years.
