U.E.B. INDS PROSPECTS
Sales Increase 20 Per Cent (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 10. Sales of U.E.B. Industries, Ltd, in the first quarter of the year were 20 per cent higher than those in the corresponding period of last year, the chairman (Mr J. N. C. Doig) told shareholders at the annual meeting in Auckland today. Providing the economy remained at its present reasonably buoyant level, he had no doubt the year would prove to be very satisfactory in every way. He announced two new developments: (1) Establishment of a pilot plant for the production of manool, a wood extract from Westland pink pine, used in the perfume industry. (2) Negotiations aimed at acquiring a controlling interest in an engineering company which would complement the activities of the engineering division, which had perfected a number of packaging systems being successfully marketed here and overseas. About 800 acres had been added to the recently bought Hawke’s Bay sheep station, bringing the total area to 3000 acres. This will be stocked with Drysdale sheep, which produce special carpet wool.
