After rain delayed the start for 80 minutes, England, having won the toss, scored 37 for one at lunch on the opening day of the third and final test against the West Indies at Headingley yesterday. England lost the wicket of G. Boycott, leg-before to G. S. Sobers, when he had scored 12, but J. H. Edrich and P. E. Sharpe denied a strong attack any further success before the interval. The England team showed two changes from the second test, the spinner, D. Underwood, being recalled, and the batsman, P. H. Parfitt, being dropped, K. Fletcher was made twelfth man.
