N.Z. Beef In Hawaii
New Zealand beef labelled “Product of Australia” was being sold in Hawaii at *1.19 per lb, said Mr T. A. Griffiths, a New Zealand businessman, in a letter from Hawaii received in Christchurch. While Mr Griffiths was looking at the meat in a supermarket an American asked him: “Do you know what it is? It tastes like buffalo, and you have to
marinate it for about an hour to get the ‘range taste’ out of it" Mr Griffiths said that he had seen apples labelled “N.Z. Delicious” at 45c per lb. They were distinctly “rusty” and “obviously not delicious, no matter what the source.” He said he bad also seen New Zealand butter at 95c per lb.
