Verdict On Guitarist
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) EAST GRINSTEAD, July 8. A coroner has ruled that the pop star, Brian Jones, aged 27, who left the Rolling Stones group last month, was drowned last week while under the influence of alcohol and drugs. A verdict of death by misadventure was recorded. The guitarist died on Thursday night during a midnight swim in the private pool of his £30,000 farm-house home m Hartfield.
The coroner (Dr Angus Sommerville) said that death was due to drowning “by immersion in fresh water, associated with a severe liver disfunction caused by fatty degeneration and ingestion of alcohol and drugs.” Miss Janet Lawson, a Stateregistered nurse and friend of Jones, told the court that he bad been drinking but had disregarded a warning not to swim.
