Invitation To Council

The chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour Board (Mr F. I. Sutton) said yesterday that he intended to invite members of the Paparua County Council to inspect the port. “Evidently some members of the council are unaware of the extent to which Lyttelton has developed over recent years,” Mr Sutton said, referring to remarks made by Cr A. Y. Shuker at the Paparua County Council meeting on Monday evening. Cr Shuker said that the Harbour Board had let the port deteriorate to the point where Lyttelton was losing its position to Timaru. One had only to go round the Lyttelton wharves to see it The board was only taking quarter measures, let alone half measures.

Mr Sutton said that his invitation to the council members would be made in order to acquaint them with what had been achieved and with the board's plans.
