WALLABY WIN
N.Z. Player Sent Off (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter —Copyright) f R. Kelleher, the New Zealand-born Sank forward of the touring Australian Rugby team, has been suspended for one match after being sent off the field for fighting during the Wallabies match against Rhodesia yesterday. Kelleher and the Rhodesian flanker, R. Varkevisser, were sent off by the referee, Mr M. Joughin, for fighting in the second half of a match that had been marred by brawling among the forwards. Kelleher’s suspension means he will miss Australia’s match against Natal in Durban on Saturday. The Wallabies returned to winning form in a tough match against Rhodesia. Determined to restore their prestige after the defeat to Griqualand West last Saturday, the tourists fought hard for a 16-11 victory. Both sides tackled hard and there was some rugged play in the rucks. A few minutes after Kelleher and Varkevisser were sent off, the Wallaby flanker, B. McDonald, had to be helped off with an injury sustained in another wild melee. The tourists lost the lineouts and were outhooked, 1-4, in the set scrums, but their ever-alert backs gave them victory by seizing on any loose ball and steadily breaking down the home side’s defence.
T. Forman, J. Cole and B. McDonald scored tries for Australia, B. Hanan kicked a dropped goal and B. Weir two conversions. For Rhodesia, M. Mulligan scored a try and T. Martin two penalties and a conversion.
