CUSTOMS REVENUE

Increase Last Year (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 8. A net revenue of $296m was collected by the Customs Department for the year ended March 31, compared with $273.5m for the previous year, an increase of 8.4 per cent, according to the department’s annual report, tabled in Parliament today. Customs duty on goods imported into New Zealand was $48.4m and excise duty on goods manufactured in New Zealand was $93.8m. Sales tax yielded $82.8m and motor spirits duty $70.5m, sl3m of which was paid into the Consolidated Fund and $57.5m into the National Roads Fund. All types of duty showed a substantial increase over the previous year.
