Land Settlement Board Appointment Defended

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 8. There were few problems that farmers would face in the seventies which had not already, been faced by Mr L. T. Daniell, a member of the Land Settlement Board, the Minister of Lands (Mr MacIntyre) said in Parliament today. Mr W. E. Rowling (Lab., Buller) had asked if the appointment of Mr Daniell, who is 80, for a further term of

five years to the board was because he was the youngest nominee available or because he would be more in tune with the needs of farmers in the 19705. Mr Maclntyre said Mr Daniell had been re-appointed after consultation with Federated Farmers.

Mr Daniell was one of New Zealand’s outstanding leaders, Mr Maclntyre said. “There is an old saying—take an old dog for a hard road,”
