OVERSEAS CAPITAL

Gorton Sees Need (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) PERTH, July 8. Australia must look for overseas capital because she could not possibly hope that there would be enough internal saving for self-develop-ment, according to the Prime Minister (Mr John Gorton). Overseas capital was essential to allow Australia to “swell her industrial muscles” and increase material capacity, he told a meeting of the State Liberal Conference last night. But it was his Government’s belief that Australians should be offered the maximum opportunity to take part in this growth. Mr Gorton said that there must also be continued efforts to bring in more migrants; and he added that defence was the rock which all development ultimately depended on, and so Australia must look to its own defence and beyond.
