BIG NEW HOTEL

Queenstown Plan (N.Z. Press Association) I DUNEDIN, July 8. A 132-bedroomed, 10-floor hotel, with an initial cost of slj million, is to be built by the Mount Cook and Southern Lakes Tourist Company in Queenstown. The hotel, which will ultimately be extended to 250 rooms, is expected to be open by October, 1971. The hotel will be built on an elevated site above the middle of the town, and not on the site first proposed, the Eichardt’s Hotel section. Eichardt’s Hotel will now be retained. The Government had approved proposals to build the hotel to replace Eichardt’s, owned by the Tourist Hotel Corporation. In a statement tonight, the managing director of the company, Mr H. R. Wigley, said the company had decided to buy the corporation's assets in Queenstown.
