Births And Deaths
More births and deaths were registered in Christchurch last month than in June 1968, according to figures released by the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages (Mr F. G. Elsmore). Last month, 460 births were recorded (36 more than in June last year) and 258 deaths (49 more). The number of marriage licences issued was 141, compared with 121 the previous June, and 31 registry marriages were conducted. This year, 2895 births have been registered, 89 more than up to June last year. Deaths in the last six months number 1234, an increase of 68. Marriage licences issued rose from 1294 last year, to 1384.
