Six-mile kick

The New Zealand Rugby selectors might be interested to know that there is a boy in Hokitika who has kicked a football six miles. Unfortunately, he is unlikely to repeat the feat. Steven Wright, a 14-year-old pupil at one of the town’s schools, was playing in a friendly game when he kicked the ball out of the sports ground and into a Greymouth-bound goods train. The ball—a new one —landed in. a cattle truck loaded with six steers.

A hectic chase by the sports master in his car ended at the Arahura station, six miles away. The ball was gingerly extracted by the guard, and it was plain to see that the rucking of six steers does more to a ball than the efforts of eight forwards.
