(N.Z.P.A.-Rewer— Copgrtohll LONDON, June 20.

The Australian newspaper magnate, Mr Rupert Murdoch, has taken over the chairmanship of Britain’s largest selling newspaper, the “News Of The World.”

Earlier this year Mr Murdoch won a battle with another bidder for control of the Sunday newspaper, which has a circulation of 6,131,000. In a surprise announcement yesterday. Sir William Carr, announced that he was retiring from the chairmanship in favour of Mr Murdoch. “I understand that he now controls at least 51 per cent of the voting share capital of the company,” Sir William Carr said at a shareholders* meeting. “It seeems to me only appropriate that this change of control should be reflected in the chair, and I am, therefore, not offering myself for re-election to the board at this meeting.”
