The Tour of Tasmania will be ' the prime objective in Australia and the grand prix course, starting and finishing at Lower Hutt on July 26 and 27, has been designed to match the conditions expected to be encountered in Tasmania. From Lower Hutt the riders will climb Haywards and cross the main road at Plimmerton for the first of many detours on to gravel roads on their journey to Palmerston North and the most difficult sections of the Tour of Manawatu course. They will stay at Palmerston North overnight. The second leg begins on the unmade surface of the Pahiatua Track to Masterton and over the Rimutakas to Lower Hutt after the occasional detour such as a climb over the Mangaroa Hill. The distance will be approximately 260 miles.
