Grading Change For Some Teachers
(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, June 19. Manual-training teachers in district high schools who qualify by grading in the same way as other secondary teachers will be able to advance from scale one salaries to scale three from last February 1.
Announcing this yesterday, the Acting Minister of Education (Mr Adams-Schneider) said the Government had agreed to the removal of a salary bar. He said that such teachers, whether they taught in separate manual training centres or were attached to intermediate or district high schools, were at present limited to scale one salaries. “Now the very best manualtraining teachers in district high schools will, like secondary teachers, gradually proceed to scale three,” Mr Adams Schneider said. “Those on grade four at February 1,1967, will proceed to scale three from February 1,1969. Those on grade four at February 1, 1968, will proceed to scale three on February 1, 1970. Those on grade three at February 1, 1967, with six years service or more, will proceed on February 1, 1971, those with four years or more, from February 1, 1972, two years or more, from February 1, 1973, and less than two years, from February 1, 1974.” The Minister said the Government felt that if teachers
, in district high schools were ■ teaching the same subjects > and to the same levels as I their counterparts in secondi ary schools then they should be similarly graded.
