Political Portraits
Sir,—Recent photographs of political candidates appearing in local newspapers are obviously aimed at deceiving the voters. These photographs do not truly represent the current appearance or age of the candidates and must therefore be labelled as either intentional or unintentional deceit. Surely the political machines these candidates represent, or the individuals, can afford the meagre fee to obtain a current and truly representative photograph. The appearance of a young, vigorous person obtained from photograph is often sadly dispalled when the ageing candidates are seen in person. Might I appeal to all persons, political candidates or not, who contemplate having photographs published, to ensure that they depict them as they are? Voters at the coming elections should exercise their discretion and avoid voting for candidates who obviously set out to deceive the electors in this manner. —Yours, etc., D. G. STEPHENS.
