CHRISTCHURCH READINGS Situation.—An anticyclone lies over the western Tasman Sea, while pressures are very low south of the Chatham Islands. A disturbed south-westerly airstream covers the country. Forecast:

Canterbury and Kaikoura Coast.—Southwesterlies, fresh at times; changeable and cold; some snow showers in the Alps, and probably some showers at times in coastal places. Central Marlborough and the Sounds.— Fresh north-west to west winds, possibly turning south-west during the day; mostly fine and rather cold, but a few showers are likely.

Nelson.—South-westerlies, fresh at times; mostly fine and rather cold, but scattered showers about the ranges.

Buller and Westland.—Moderate variable winds, south-westerlies freshening at times; variable skies, with some showers; cold.

Outlook: west to south-west conditions, with some showers, especially in the west and about the ranges.
