Train Stalls On Crossing
Traffic was delayed for about 20 minutes at the Montreal Street level crossing yesterday morning when a locomotive pulling a rake of waggons broke down on the crossing. The train had left the Christchurch yard for shunting at 7.39 a.m. It stopped only inches from the relay which actuates the crossing barrier at Antigua Street. When a second locomotive moved on to the rear of the stalled train to take it back to the yard, the motion caused the Antigua Street barrier arms to move up and down. The District Traffic Manager of Railways (Mr A. D. Campbell) apologised to motoristsfor the delay.
