Sunday Play Problem
(from R. T. BKITTENDEN, N.Z.P.A. special correspondent) EASTBOURNE.
The ontfssion from New Zealand’s team for the first tour match of three. players who have no wish to play on Sunday has brought to the surface, at a very early stage, a problem which will confront the New Zealand party throughout the summer. With G. M. Turner playing for Worcestershire and R. C, Motz injured, the New Zealand team for the match against D. H. Robins’s XI is: G. T. Dowling, K. J. Wadsworth, B. R. Taylor, R. O. Collinge, R. S. Cunis, D. A. Hadlee, M. G. Burgess, B. E. Congdon, B. Milburn, H. J Howarth, B. E- Hastings. Those omitted are V. Pollard, B. A. G. Murray and B. W. Yuile, although Pollard has been named twelfth man.' "Three playerse have expressed the wish not to play
on Sundays,” said the manager, Mr G. C. Burgess, “and this will be respected. But in the event of injury depleting the team they have agreed to play if required.” There is another practice game against the Cavaliers on Sunday week and Sunday play is set down for county matches against Essex in midJuly, Glamorgan in early August and Lancashire at the end of that month. The game against Glamorgan immediately precedes the second test at Trent Bridge, and the selection panel would undoubtedly like to give as many of its test players as possible match practice there. Pollard and Yuile are particularly strong test candidates, and the need to omit them from these three county games must have an unfortunate effect on the composition of teams for other matches a& well.
