FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A deep depression near Campbell Island is moving slowly south-east and a cool, disturbed south-westerly airstream covers New Zealand. Forecast: Canterbury and the Kaikoura CoastWest to north-west winds, fresh and gusty; changing to south-westerly temporarily during the day; frequent showers about the high country and Banks Peninsula, with snow to 2000 feet; elsewhere scattered showers and variable skies; rather cold. Central Marlborough and Marlborough Sounds.—Strong north-west to west winds; partly cloudy, with scattered showers. Nelson.—Fresh south-westerlies; showery about the western ranges, otherwise partly cloudy; cold. Buller and Westland.—South-westerlies, fresh in exposed areas; changeable and cold, with snow to low levels on the ranges. Outlook: cold south-westerlies, with showers, although the West Coast should have some fine periods tomorrow.
