Last Trotting Meeting Of Season Today
Laser Light (Ohoka Handicap) and Remember When (Oxford Handicap) should be sound prospects in the races for trotters at the Rangiora Trotting Club’s winter meeting today. This meeting will end the 1968-69 trotting season.
Laser Light trotted his best race for some time when he finished second to the promising trotter, Remember When, on the second day of the recent Ashburton meeting. If he handles the firmer footing expected at Rangiora with the same confidence, he should graduate from maiden company.
Ailsa Peterson could not handle the track conditions at Ashburton on May 31 and she finished near the tail of the field. A fortnight earlier she ran Dollarwise to a close decision at Washdyke, an effort which should be a better guide to her chances in this field. She should be the hardest for Laser Light to beat. Western Valley was a runaway winner over two miles at Ashburton on May 31. If he trots with the same dash at Rangiora he will be hard to catch. Crumbs, Marker, Coronet Peak, Going and Finnigan are others capable of taking part in the finish. Remember When was having her first start for almost three years when she overcame the disadvantage of
-l [starting from 60 yards and 1 won over 12 furlongs at Ashburton on June 2. The rise l in class in the Oxford Handi--1 cap should not worry her and I she should be untroubled to win again. J Kilarno shaped like an early . winner when he finished : second to Beau Winter at
Washdyke last month. If he races with the same dash he might offer most opposition to Remember When.
The Belfast trainer, C. S. Donald, will parade , a strong form bracket of three—Garrison Salute, Promite and Propetre. All have sound placed efforts to their credit in the last few weeks and they will be strongly supported, aprticularly on the place totalisator.
Lucky Lad and Princess Cord are others expected to add interest to the finish. The T.A.B. concession double will be run on the Rangiora Winter Cup and the Eyreton Handicap.
An on-course concession double will be run on the Waikuku Handicap and the First Sefton Handicap, Caddy and Cadmus forming a likely combination. Fair weather is forecast and the track will be fast. Fields are:— FIRST LEG OF ON-COURSB DOUBLE 11 a.m—
