Accommodation For Tourists
Sir,—The National Development Conference report caters only for the wealthy tourists that “B” refers to. The Intercontinental Hotel in Auckland incurred a loss of $1,090,000 because more and more tourists are going to motels instead of hotels, Surely, then, Christchurch should build more motels if it wants to attract more tourists from overseas. If tourism is earning some ss9m in 1973 this sum will only be a fraction of the gross earnings because the cream will be skimmed off by the vested interests of the tourist industry.—Yours, etc., DISILLUSIONED NATIONALIST. June 11, 1969.
