ADJUTANTGENERAL

Brigadier R. McK. Paterson, formerly head of the New Zealand Joint Services Liaison Staff, Canberra, has been appointed AdjutantGeneral of the New Zealand Army. He succeeds Brigadier H. A. Purcell, who will become Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff at the Ministry of Defence. Brigadier Paterson will take up duties as Adjutant-General later this month.

A graduate of the Royal Military College, Duntroon,

Brigadier Paterson served in the Pacific, the Middle East, and Italy as a troop commander in both field and antiaircraft artillery during World War 11. He served in the Commonwealth Occupation Forces in Japan after the war, and in 1948 became chief instructor at the Tactical School, Trentham. After an appointment as commander of the Northern Military District in 1964, Brigadier Paterson became head of the New Zealand Joint Services Liaison Staff at Canberra.
