“Teen-age Driver Of The Year” Contest Soon
Christchurch contestants in the Jaycee-Atlantic “Teenage Driver of the Year” contest will be put through their paces at three Christchurch car-parks on June 22. The three winners will be sent to Wellington to compete in the national finals on October 4 and 5.
The contest will be run by chapters of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, several firms will provide prizes, and the Atlantic Union Oil Company will meet travel and accommodation expenses for the national finals.
The Christchurch Jaycee chapter will bold its contest at the Tuam Street car park from 1.30 p.m. on June 22, the Riccarton-Homby chapter will hold its contest at Hay’s car park, Riccarton, and the Christchurch South chapter will hold Its contest at Hay’s car park, Sydenham.
Area contest winners will receive minor prizes, and the national contest winner will receive a return trip for two to Sydney, plus $lOO, this prize being given by Pan American Airways. The contest is open to drivers aged not more than 21 and entry forms are available from the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce office and from most secondary schools. The contests will include
garaging, manoeuvring, and slalom tests, and the judges will include members of the Christchurch City Council traffic department.
