A new factory will be built by Namco (New Zealand), Ltd, on a five-acre property it has bought in Waterloo Road.
The company manufactures domestic furniture, outdoor furniture, and commercial and hospital furniture and equipment. At present its basic manufacturing is done at Papakura in a plant of almost 100,060 sq. ft, and it has been sending products by sea in knocked-down condition for assembly and warehousing in Christchurch. . With the new factory running, Christchurch will make
tables and upholstery for the domestic and . commercial markets, and manufacture beds for the South Island. Mr P. B. Minogue, the general manager, said that results from development of the South Island market in the last two years had been encouraging and impressed the company with the potential in the South Island, and especially Canterbury. It envisaged full use of its five-acre site if the development continued.
