West Indians 264, Century To Butcher

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) STOKE-ON-TRENT (England). The West Indian cricketers were dismissed for 264 in their first innings by the lowly-rated Minor Counties attack. Minor Counties hit an impressive 325 for eight declared in their first innings on Saturday and compiled 21 for one by the close of play on Sunday to lead the West Indians by 82 runs. The West Indians, with the exception of a battling century from the test batsman, B. F. Butcher, failed to hit out freely against the tight pace attack.

Butcher’s 109 was his sec-ond-best score of the tour. The day’s honours went to the fast bowler, S. Young, who with a consistently accurate pace took four wickets for 44. The West Indian slide began early on Sunday with the dismissal of C. Davis for 12. R. C. Fredericks hit a six off F. Millett to long-leg to reach his 50, added four more, and was trapped leg-before when playing back to Bailey. M. Findlay was run out without scoring when Butpher called for a quick single that was not on. Young mopped up the West Indian tail with three wickets in six deliveries, a reward for painstaking perseverance on a quiet wicket. S. Camacho was unable to bat because of influenza.
