League Grand-final On Sunday Suggested
Th* senior Rugby league grand-final could be played on a Sunday, said a latter received at a meeting of the Canterbury Rugby League beard of control last evening. The letter, from the Marlst club suggested that 40 per cent of the gross takings be shared equally by all clubs; and where applicable, rather than a cash grant be mode, the money be credited against clubs’ fees for the 1909 season. Season tickets could be usable at the Sunday match, eeld the letter.
Negotiation* with the New Zealand council for a referees' coaching school were also suggested. The board's chairman (Mr D. C. Wilson) said there was merit in the Idea of a Sunday grandfinal and the proposal was of such Importance that it should be discussed by the full board. Three members were absent
from the meeting. It was agreed to hold the matter over until next week's meeting. The board also decided to postpone discussion on the part of the letter dealing with a proposed referees’ coaching school until next week.
Suspended.—B. Smith, of the Hornby senior side, was suspended for two playing Saturdays for punching in a tackle. Smith was ordered from the Held in * match between Hornby and Papanui, at Hornby, lest Saturday.
Appointments.—Mr P. Yaxley was appointed manager of the Canterbury senior team to play West Coast at Greymouth on June 22, and Mr A. J. Atkinson was appointed manager of the Canterbury senior second division side, which will play the curtain-raiser. Mr J. Robinson was appointed coach of the senior second division side
