Labelling Attacked

Government departments were yesterday accused of conveying toxic chemicals in unlabelled containers. The chairman of the chemical applicators’ section of the Contractors’ Federation told the section’s annual conference: “We have proof of this. It is time the Government departments put their house in order. This is posing a grave risk to health." Replying, the registrar of the Agricultural Chemicals Board (Mr F. B. Thomson) said: “Why don’t you people tell us about these things. If this had been reported we would have acted quickly.”

Mr Thomson said that accidents with agricultural chemicals represented a very small proportion of poisoning cases. Most cases of accidents with chemicals involved young children getting access to them in the home.
