Dentists’ Charges
Sir, —I had a very similar experience to that of “Watch It” a few years ago when my dentist (with whom I had been on the best of terms for .10 years) sold his practice. His successor “examined” my mouth, which took some three minutes, end I was told to return for two fillings at a second appointment. These took, at most, 15 minutes to complete (and one of them has since fallen out and had to be replaced), but even that was not the end. I had to go back to have my fillings “smoothed off”—which took another three minutes. I have been to dentists for 60 years, and as I did not intend to argue over a fee which was more than double what it
ought to have been, I just changed my dentist. I readily agree with Mr McMeeghan that when one finds a good dentist, as I have now done, his charges are reasonable, and one does not feel that getting rich quick is his main object.—Yours, etc., I.S.T. June 7, 1969.
