LEADING ISSUES WEAK IN FALLING SHAREMARKET

The New Zealand sharemarket turned down again yesterday, when a number of leaders made marginal losses, and falls over all outnumbered rises by almost two to one. Trading was quiet and most issues changed hands at steady prices.

Large moves were restricted to second-line stocks. Colonial Motors and Industrial Gases each added 10c, a recovery for Colonial and another advance for Gases. South Otago Freezing fell 20c to 155 c, its first sale below 170 c this year, and Donaghys lost 15c to 315 e after a month’s popular trading. Wilson and Horton returned to its March price of 240 c with a 5c fall. The overseas list was weaker. Ampol and Factors falling further while B.H.P. lost another 20c to close at 1750 c. Mount Isa lost the same I amount to trade at 1015 c.
