Watersider Crushed
(N.Z. Press Association) NAPIER, May 20. A 26-year-old Napier watersider was crushed to death by two logs, weighing about one ton each, on the Japanese log ship Rhein Maru at the port of Napier today. The man was thought to have died instantly. He was Herbert William Maraki married, of Napier.
After the accident, about 9.15 a.m., all work stopped for the day at the port. One other ship, the freighter, Illyric, was working the port. The Rhein Maru is loading 4.8 m feet of logs for Japan.
