SAPLING STAKES

36 Still In Field

Thirty-six horses remain In the New Zealand Sapling Stakes to be run at Ashburton on Saturday week. The club is expected to give preference to horses which have shown form at totalisator meetings when the final field is selected next Monday.

Ten horses—Direct Return, Bravine, Glamour, Walk Alone, Rossini, Grand Frere, Yandarlo, Sydney James. Boy Friend and Berkleigh—are assured of a start, as also arc Fortunate, Bright Adios, Friendly Jane and Top Tally, which have recorded placings. Additional horses could gain placings at Addington Raceway on Saturday and so earn a start.

The course safety limit at Ashburton is 18, so four horses with no form will receive a start, and another four will be given right of re-entry.
