U.K. STRIKE BILL
Wilson Takes Firm Stand
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright! LONDON, May 21. The British Prime Minister (Mr Harold Wilson) said last night that he was prepared *o stake the life of the Government on his proposed bill to curb wildcat strikes, because the economy of the country was at stake.
“The unions must be given every opportunity of dealing with the problem themselves, and I'd like them to be able to do it,” he said. “But I have got to be satisfied that they can.”
The measure, introduced to the House of Commons by the Minister of Productivity (Mrs Barbara Castle) has been strongly opposed by Left-wing and trade union members of Parliament.
