MR LANG ELECTED
Speedway Board
The president of the Christchurch Speedway Association, Mr R. O. Lang, has been elected the promoters’ representative on the New Zealand Auto Cycle Union’s speedway control board.
He narrowly beat the Auckland promoter, Mr H. Arthur, in a ballot.
Mr Lang was the only South Island resident to win a place on the board as a class representative. Other class representatives were elected as follows:
Stock car promoters’ representative, Mr S. Black (Morrinsville); midget car representative, Mr L. Vercoe (Auckland); three-quarter midget car representative, Mr D. Sorenson (Auckland); motor-cycle and sidecar representative, Mr A. Clark (Auckland); stock car competitors’ representative, Mr M. Hopkins (Stratford). The Auto Cycle Union’s appointments to the board will be made after the annual conference in August.-
The president of the union (Mr A. M. Laurenson, of Timaru) said yesterday that 13 licensed tracks would probably be operating in the Dominion next season. More than 1000 registered competitors would be involved.
Rugby Squad.— The Southland No. 8 last season, D. J. Allan, is in the 18-man Wellington B Rugby squad announced yesterday to play Marlborough at Blenheim on Queen’s Birthday (June 2).
