FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An intense anticyclone east of the Chatham Islands is moving only slowly away, and a moist northerly airstream flows over the country. Forecast: Canterbury and Kaikoura Coast.—Winds from the northerly quarter, fresh at times; rain persisting in the Alps but elsewhere long fair intervals developing; rising day temperatures. Buller and Westland.—Moderate winds from the northerly quarter; overcast; further rather persistent rain; moderate temperatures. Nelson and Marlborough, except the Kaikoura Coast.—Moderate winds from the noi-therly quarter becoming fresh about the Sounds; cloudy with periods of rain but increasing fair intervals.
