HAIRDRESSING SHOPS

“Big Improvement In Hygiene”

A big improvement in the general cleanliness and conduct of most of the city’s 240 registered hairdressers’ shops had been shown by the second round of inspections, the health and clean air committee reported to' the Christchurch City Council last evening.

The inspections had been to check on hygienic practices and to give proprietors an opportunity to discuss structural requirements such as the provision of washhand basins, sinks for washing equipment, lighting and ventilation.

In some cases old practices died hard, the committee said. Sanitary practices dealing with ‘he cleaning and making hygienic of all tools and equipment were the main reason for the more stringent regulations.
