Tougher Dog Control Laws

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 16. Tougher dog control laws were put before Parliament today. Under a Dog Registration Amendment Bill, an owner convicted of failing to register a dog who has still not registered the dog 14 days after bis conviction will copy mit a further offence carrying a fine of up to $lO daily for each day the dog remains unregistered. One provision in existing law is amended to make it clear that local body by-laws may provide for the impounding of dogs found at large in breach of the by-laws, whether or not the dogs are wearing a proper collar. The bill was given a first reading.
