The successful applicant will be expected to take up duty on September 1, 1969. DUTIES: (1) Direction of a small but qualified staff engaged in specialist tasks; for example, consumer product testing covering a wide range of consumer goods and services; research into consumer problems; editing and publishing “Consumer.” (2) From time to time, the Director will be required by Council to discuss specific matters affecting consumer welfare with commercial and other interests. (3) The director will be required to prepare for the approval of Council submissions on matters of consumer interest raised before public enquiries and Bills Committees of the House of Representatives. The appointee must be able to stand up to cross-examination on the Council submissions. (4) The appointee will be required to become acquainted with the board outlines of consumer protection legislation in other countries. (5) As Chief Executive, the Director will be immediately responsible to the Consumer Council for the overall administration and management of Consumers’ Institute and for the implementation of Council’s policy toward protection and promotion of consumers’ interests. The position carries with it, full responsibility for the organisation, training and morale of the staff of Consumers’ Institute. QUALIFICATIONS: The ability to carry out the foregeoing duties.
